Sable of Celeste
Jan. 10th, 2024 09:37 pmI've done two rounds of snow shoveling in the last two days, and I feel surprisingly good. I begged off taking Madame out today. The only way I could have done it is if I'd been up much earlier and shoveled much faster, so the Sparrowhawk could have gone along with us to the bookstore and then taken the car to go to his doctor's appointment. This was far too complicated. I may take her out tomorrow, if it doesn't snow too much overnight. The Sparrowhawk came out and helped me shovel, so we got it done by 11, in time for him to take off for his 11:30 appointment. The snow was very heavy and wet. I know my limitations, and I take care to get my stance correct before hefting and flinging snow, to make sure I don't twist my joints. Martial arts training is surprisingly useful in ordinary life. Neither my back nor my legs are sore, so I'm very pleased with myself.
It was such a cozy day. I can't say I got a lot done, but I certainly enjoyed having tea and looking out the window at the frozen scene, while not having to go anywhere! The Sparrowhawk sagaciously stopped at the store on the way home and got some milk and coffee cream, and a roasted chicken. So we're all set for the next few days, which promise to bring even more snow. We've sent out a warning to the Philosopher and the Nipper that it seems increasingly unlikely that we'll be able to attend the birthday party. A strong storm system approaches, ready to dump 8-14 inches of snow not only here, but in Chicagoland. Temperatures will plummet and there will be strong winds, resulting in blowing snow. The weather people are gleefully using their favorite phrase, "bomb cyclone." Of course, it's always possible that we could wake up Friday and hear that the whole thing has blown over. Tomorrow we'll have to decide. I would feel sad to give up the adventure and the joy of seeing two of my sons and two of my grandsons! Not to mention the Lovely Friend, and her mother and sisters. I met her family at the wedding and thought they seemed very nice, but I haven't seen them since. This would be a happy opportunity to visit with them again. I guess it's always a mistake to make grand plans in January . . . in Michigan . . . .
