Yay! I survived. After a night of fitful sleep, we got up way too early, and drove through the frozen darkness to the clinic. I drove myself, because the Sparrowhawk is not in peak condition that early in the morning. Back when he was still working, the poor man drove himself to many a pre-dawn meeting, but not now. He then sat around in the clinic awaiting my recovery, and was in fine fettle to take me home. We both had an extensive nap after that. The good news is that, pending any unforeseen results from the lab, the doctor said he didn't see any reason why I should have any more colonoscopies! They usually stop doing routine screenings when you're 80, and by the time five years comes around again, I'll be near as dammit to 80. Close enough for jazz. The cheerful nurse smiled and said, "Congratulations! You've graduated from our program!" This last procedure really took a toll on me, so I'm glad I won't be doing it again.

In spite of the nap, it took about 12 hours for me to shed the aftereffects, just as they told me it would. Which means that most of the things I was hoping to get done still didn't happen. I got about halfway through making soup, and the Sparrowhawk and I made an evening run to the grocery store once the drugs wore off, so at least I'll have some basic refreshments to offer. I have seldom been so unready for company. I've been looking forward to seeing my brother for so long that it makes me sad not to make everything perfect, but I'll just have to hope that love will cover a multitude of imperfections. It was kind of fun to be in the grocery store at 9 pm picking up party snacks. It's been a long time since we did that together. It reminded me of being young!
