Made it to Charleston! We left exactly an hour later than planned, which is to be expected. It was a beautiful day, though windy. The orange barrels were nesting along the roadsides and performing their mating dances. We took a wrong turn somewhere in Ohio. I was driving, not navigating, but I'm pretty sure I know what happened. When we were going 35 miles an hour through places like Mt. Victory, I ventured to dispute the phone's assertion that this was the fastest route under current conditions. Maybe it was the fastest route, given that we were wandering through the boonies. But eventually we came to an actual highway and all's well that ends well. Anyway, the Mayday carol says "We have been wandering all the night, and nearly half the day," so what could be more appropriate than a little wander through the woods and fields all dressed in their spring green? I'm glad it didn't really last all night, however. Tron and the Lumberjack arrived a couple of hours earlier. We stopped to say hello to them--briefly, for they were already prepared for bed--and asked where they ate. It turned out to be a Thai place just a few minutes away. We were nearly too tired to get back in the car, but also starving. It was a delightful place with a charming proprietor. I got some delicious wonton soup, always my favorite restorative after an arduous day. The Sparrowhawk's sashimi plate was almost too pretty to eat. We shared a dragon roll with eel in it, also a favorite restorative food--to me--I realize not everyone sees BBQ eel in that light. The Microtel is no resort, but we are just grateful not to be in motion.
