OceanSwell of Zenith
Jun. 16th, 2024 10:17 pmToday we barely made it to church, and only by both of us not taking showers, because we were so late in getting up. When we got home, I fixed a grand Fathers Day breakfast of sausages, eggs and mushrooms, oranges, and toast and jam. Then I took a walk, while the Sparrowhawk practiced his piano, sadly neglected this week due to being away from home. The weather is gearing up for excessive heat, but today was only about 85, with a breeze, and not too humid. I plodded along slowly, feeling still extremely tired. I wore my big straw hat for shade. It has a cord on it so it doesn't blow off my head and sail away. Summer flowers are out: black-eyed Susans, daisies, cone flowers, day lilies, and roses. I saw a family group sitting in some benches under the shade of the trees, and thought "How nice--a Fathers Day picnic." However, as I passed by them, I heard one of the older gentlemen say " . . . so he wasn't doing well on Friday, but when he got back to hospice he was alert again . . ." Oh dear. Well, Fathers Day does bring up thoughts of mortality as well as celebration.
Our celebration has been mostly food and naps. I know our trip really tired us out, because it is unbelievable how much we've been napping. We had another one today, and I could hardly wrench myself out of the arms of Morpheus to get up and make us supper before it got dark. At the Sparrowhawk's request, we had bacon cheeseburgers with tomatoes and pickles and potato chips. At my insistence, we also had green beans and a salad. And then cherry pie--from the freezer case at the grocery store, because I do have SOME limits!! Some of the kids texted, and some called--briefly, since they are fathers too, and busy having their own Fathers Days.
Without going into the blow-by-blow of our trip, I'll tell the end first. We were there primarily to support Tron and the Lumberjack during Tron's breast cancer surgery. The good news is that they got clean margins, and only the two lymph nodes originally biopsied had to come out. The rest were cancer-free. She'll be recovering for a couple of weeks, and at the end of the month will have a video conference with her oncologist to discuss the treatment plan. Yesterday morning, we ate waffles and watched some HGTV with her lying on the couch, and said goodbye when she started to fall asleep again. The Lumberjack is taking excellent care of her, and they know we will come back any time they need us.
