October 4 IronOre of Leave
Oct. 4th, 2024 09:08 pmWhat I bought at the farmers market this morning: a ham and cheese croissant for the Sparrowhawk and a kouign amann to split with coffee tomorrow. Three ears of corn, probably the last of the year (warned by cheerful vendor that they might have a worm, but "you can just cut that off"), some green beans, beets, peppers, a very cute little cabbage, one beefsteak tomato and a small box of cherry tomatoes, a gallon of milk and a pound of butter.
So that's a post, I guess, and now I must apologize for just going AWOL. I've received two snail mail cards from dear friends to express concern, and I feel bad that my absence may have caused alarm. I've just been so extraordinarily tired by the end of the day, and things seem either too complicated or too boring to relate. Once one wanders off the writing path, it's all too easy to keep wandering, rather than returning to the keyboard, as I know all too well in other contexts.
Also, we've been traveling so much! Including the eclipse journey in April, we've taken eleven trips this summer. So I haven't been home very much. In addition, we've had various visitors here. We just came home from our latest journey--the one to the wedding of Mr. and Ms. Science's daughter. It was a sort of combination of wedding and memorial, for my brother's presence and absence were both very much in evidence. As I said, everything is complicated . . . so that's all I'll say about that for now, though it certainly merits more description. There was some talk of making yet another trip this coming week--up to the UP to help Ms. Science close up the cottage my brother so loved for the winter. The Duchess and Duke are going, and I wish I could go too, but I just can't do that to the Sparrowhawk or myself. I can only hope the others don't do themselves an injury! We will at least be babysitting the Bird Baby in the absence of the Duchess, so Dr. Nurse won't have to worry about finding a substitute.
And now I'm going to bed and hoping to sleep a lot, which is my only real goal most days!
