Wheat of Leave
Oct. 12th, 2024 08:49 pmI am once again very tired, but not from physical accomplishments this time. The time has rolled around for the Sparrowhawk to go to a men's retreat--yes, the very same one that last year saw him returning via ambulance after he fainted from dehydration. This year I suggested he get a ride with a friend so I could have the car in case I needed it, and implored him to stay hydrated. His ride was scheduled to come at 7:15. This meant getting up much earlier than usual, so we went to bed early. Via the curse of unintended consequences, this led to my waking up at 3 am, lying in bed having the usual existential crisis until 4, and then getting up and staying up until 6. I went back to bed about 8, after the Sparrowhawk left, but kept the phone by my bed in case the Lumberjack passed on some news of Tron.
I woke up about 10 to a text from him informing us that he'd just talked to her doctors. She doesn't have an infection from her port, so that's good. But they haven't been able to determine whether her lung problems are pneumonia or a bad reaction to the taxol. If the latter, she might have to quit chemo early, but that wouldn't necessarily be a problem, since she has done quite a lot of it already. She'll stay in the hospital tonight for more IV antibiotics just in case, but she might get discharged tomorrow if she feels well enough. She'll have a bronchoscopy on Monday if they can't come to any conclusions about her lungs before then. I spent some time passing this info on to all who wanted it.
I had quite a few things I wanted to do today, once I was semi-awake again, but then the texting with my sisters and the phone calls . . . . The Duchess is home from her trip to assist Ms. Science at the cabin, and there was a good deal of phone conferencing. I was on the phone when the Sparrowhawk arrived home, in good spirits and without incident. Our friend who had given him a ride carried in my pots and pans from Thursday, all in order and intact! I was overjoyed--and happy to see the Sparrowhawk as well, ha ha. Finally, after sending various messages we hoped would be cheering, we got a message from Tron that she had just ordered mashed potatoes for dinner. If she's feeling well enough to eat mashed potatoes, things must be looking up. I've been feeling pretty sick all day, in spite of the nap. At this point I felt well enough to make a very simple meal--spaghetti with meat sauce, followed by an apple crisp I've been wanting to fix for some time. I hope I can sleep tonight.
