Muskrat of Celeste
Dec. 29th, 2024 10:01 pmIt was a very dark, rainy day of enforced idleness. Since we couldn't go for a walk, we went to the bookstore just for fun. Nothing much was on sale. We looked around the kids' area, to see if there was anything we'd like to get for Bird Baby, but we don't know exactly what she likes right now. We'll have to consult her parents. We sat down and had coffee instead. I had a paranoid fear I would run into Madame, but she wasn't there. I did see the woman who lives across the hall from her, who was there with her minders! However, she never recognizes me.
I got a response from Mademoiselle to my texts of yesterday. She apologized for not replying earlier. She has just tested positive for covid. Poor girl! She has already had terrible bouts of this same disease. It has been a hard year. I had assumed Madame was tested for covid, but apparently that didn't happen. This seems quite neglectful to me. A resident of an elder care facility gets a troublesome respiratory virus, and no one checks for covid? WTF. Had I known this, I would certainly not have taken her out among people while she was potentially infectious. I probably wouldn't have gone there myself! But, at any rate, I've persistently tested negative, so if she did have it, I didn't catch it. Probably Madame just had the regular cold that everyone is getting.
The Sparrowhawk made me a steak for dinner. It was good, but I couldn't finish it. This is somewhat unlike me. I don't think I'm entirely back to normal yet. We watched the old Disney version of The Wind in the Willows, and I was surprised by how faithful to the original it was, and how beautiful the background paintings are.
