Jan. 7th, 2025 09:45 pmMy friend is home from the hospital and sleeping in her own bed. She still hasn't received a diagnosis, but at least they've ruled out some very good things to NOT have.
Madame is texting me strange things. Mademoiselle is less than helpful with my inquiries. She SAYS there's no covid in the building. I hope she's right. I'm really not looking forward to this, but I guess I'll go and see how Madame is doing tomorrow.
Still driving the rental car. The service guys only today found the battery dead and got the car restarted and up on the hoist. They hadn't done any work on it yet, as of the last message.
Since I didn't manage to get to the grocery store today, dinner was a salvaging operation. I had a couple of bags of greens that were on the brink, but I washed and sorted them and got a pile of fronds that were still good. I sauteed them with onions, a couple of leftover take out containers of soy sauce that were sitting in the refrigerator as they do, some rice vinegar and a little maple syrup. I thawed out a pound of ground beef and mixed it with a can of mushrooms that was in my pantry stock and needed to be rotated, half a tomato chopped up, and most of a bunch of parsley--again salvaged--plus some black bean and garlic sauce. The Sparrowhawk made rice yesterday, so we had plenty of that. I tried to bake a couple of sweet potatoes, but they didn't get soft quite soon enough, so they had to be a second course. Also some lettuce for a salad.
Five things make a blog post, they say, and that's only four . . . but as the song goes, "There's a little piece of bread a-lyin' on the shelf/If you want any more, you can get it yourself!"
