My main goal today was to pack for the trip. I'm sorta halfway there. I always start vacillating about which clothes to bring, especially in a volatile season like this one. I hope I'll remember to bring my own pillow. That makes things nicer. We had our weekly Zoom with Deb and the Prussian. Their home renovations are gradually coming together. Today's distraction was the DTE tree service, which was in their neighborhood making an awful racket. Our scourge has been the neighbors' leaf blowers.

I also made a delicious bean soup with ham broth. It was a combination of the broth from when I cooked the ham originally, and the extra portion from when I cooked up the bone. I sizzled a couple of onions and some celery, added the broth and some Great Northern beans. I then trimmed off the ham scraps from the bone and added them to the pot. It was very easy, because it really didn't need any additions or seasonings. The ham itself gave it plenty of flavor. If I'd had a little fresh parsley or something like that, I would have thrown it in, but the celery tops gave a bit of that herbal flavor. It re-confirms my conviction that a good broth is the essence of a good soup. You can add what you like once you have that in place. It will be comforting to have this stashed in the refrigerator for when we get home.

The temperature went down below freezing last night, and stayed cold all day, with a few errant flakes of snow. My poor flowers are so brave! I hope they live until I get back. I haven't had time yet to really enjoy the daffodils. But I think I say that almost every year. They're pretty tough are likely to last. Now the clouds have cleared enough to reveal the still-waxing moon, riding high in the sky. I feel inexplicably tired out. I look forward to enjoying the moonlight in bed.
