Aug. 2nd, 2025 07:24 pmThe weather today was frustrating again, with pleasant summery temperatures and sunny skies, but skies that were blurred and hazed by bad smoke that made the air quality less than optimal. So once again, I really wanted to go out, but wasn't sure I should. Today is the 17th anniversary of the Nipper and the Redhead! They are celebrating by going to see Fantastic Four, which is funny, because Tron and the Lumberjack had their 15th anniversary recently, and they too celebrated by seeing the same movie!
It's not as if I didn't have plenty to do inside. I was feeling kind of slow and didn't get all that much done. I thought about reorganizing my closet, but didn't start on that, because I wanted to cut up strawberries and wash lettuce. I also had a big bag of blueberries that were given me by the friend who brought our yard worker over. He said they and their housemates had gone blueberry picking and they had another big bucket at home, so he'd actually appreciate it if I took these. They were in rather sad shape and needed a careful washing and sorting. This took some time, but it's done, so maybe I can make some muffins tomorrow. Then I had some writing and texting, and then I made a main dish for dinner in record time. I sauteed onions and mushrooms, cut up two chicken breasts while those were cooking, soaked them briefly in milk, rolled them in flour, sea salt, pepper, and herbs de provence, then sauteed them until they had a crispy crust, and then mixed in a slosh of Gewurztraminer and a spoonful of sour cream. Then we went off to church. When we came home, I heated up rice, broccoli, and green beans from a previous meal and served it with the chicken and some Gewurztraminer in a glass. I have become an extremely cheap date, as one glass of wine seems to be about my limit these days.
The Sparrowhawk and I were pondering the fact that we want to get a lot of things done around here, yet at the same time, it isn't good to plan your day around things you don't enjoy. It's a dilemma of getting older and only having energy for a few things at a time.
