My blood pressure has dropped quite a bit, but I still feel suboptimal, so it wasn't the blood pressure. I got up too early and hustled around, cleaning the sink etc. The plumber was supposed to come at 9. Time passed, I didn't take a shower because I thought he'd be here soon. Finally the Sparrowhawk called him. He claimed he had tried to call, but our phone was busy. ??? Phones are not busy in this day and age. They go to voicemail. Anyway, we weren't on the phone. We were staring at it, waiting for the plumber to call. He must have called the wrong number, but wasn't about to admit that. Oh well. He came right over.

And then massive plumbing neep. How to make this short . . . we have OLD plumbing and nothing was standard. The great thing about these guys is that they are old school, and if they don't have what fits, they can make it happen anyway. But not immediately. He did some kind of kluge fix that has stopped the leak for now, and he will come back with a more complete version in two weeks. Meanwhile, the water to the house was turned off all morning, so I couldn't do any of the things I had planned to do. I didn't want to, anyway. All I wanted to do was take a shower and go back to bed.

Eventually, I got my shower, and a very short nap. I had a brief Zoom with a friend about some interesting structural issues they were having, and then, at long last, started feebly poking at this business of getting ready to go away for a week. Did some laundry, ate some leftovers. Then I made some bread, because we're out. It's baking now, and I've stuffed most of my clothes into the bag. I have a box full of sheets and towels. We still have to pack the kitchen box and the grocery box/cooler. That all has to be done tomorrow morning, because we're packing things that we use all the time, like the French press and the coffee.

As a bonus, the plumber looked at our hose connection in the back yard. FYI, do not buy a hose from Home Depot that has an aluminum connector that screws on to your outdoor faucet. The aluminum will bond inextricably with the faucet under the right conditions, and you will never get it off. We know this now. The plumber took a hacksaw to the wretched thing and detached it with extreme prejudice. Now we will go and get a hose with a proper BRASS connector that will screw on and off.

I would feel so much better about this trip if I could have a fluffy feather mattress that would fly like a magic carpet and waft me to the other side of the state while I napped blissfully. It's the only way to travel.
