Gulch of Shadow
Nov. 7th, 2025 07:16 pmLast night, we had a rollicking good time at the Dante book club, as we always do. However, by the time I got home, I was far too tired to post anything. We went straight up to bed, as soon as I had put the chili and condiments away. Earlier in the day, I made the chili and raked up four bags of leaves. That was all the bags we had, so I had to stop there.
Unfortunately, I had a fairly wretched night, consisting of two 2-3 hour naps, separated by a gap of an hour or two during which I had to get up and mope for awhile. As I came downstairs, I heard the wind chimes on the porch tinkling softly. My first thought was fear that some critter had made its way onto the porch, but then I realized it was just a gust of wind. After the wind came the rain. This morning, more swathes of leaves had fallen, covering over the stripe of green my raking left. We finally bit the bullet and had an intensive discussion of whether we will go to the Diva's for Thanksgiving. Very regretfully, we've decided to stay put. It is hard to commit oneself to a plane ticket while reading headlines that say things like "More than 1200 flights canceled as airport chaos begins. 'People are just fed up.'" Both of us felt some relief once the decision was made, although we're also quite sad. We offered to help the Nipper and his family go if they still want to try it.
I finally made appointments to get the x-ray and blood work my doctor wants. Not at the same time or even on the same day, of course. That would be far too convenient. Grr. I also had an unexpected phone call from Fearless Leader to discuss a question related to child protection that has come up. And again grr. I hate this stuff. I hope the decision we mutually agreed on is a good one. I made the usual egg dish for Friday dinner, with potatoes, mushrooms, onion, and cheese, and a side salad. Before dinner I went out for a quick walk. The woods are enchanted at this time of year.
