I knew I should have cleaned off the car yesterday! I had to do it this morning so the Sparrowhawk could go to his eye appointment, and it was a job. Yesterday it warmed up just enough to create a trickle of meltwater from beneath the snow, and then it froze enough to create a layer of ice over all the surfaces I cleaned off yesterday. The car was encased in frozen snow with ice underneath and had to be chipped out like a work of Michelangelo. "I just cut away everything that isn't a car . . ."

As usual, I had great plans that did not entirely come to fruition. I did a minuscule amount of cleaning up, but it was canceled out by my starting to work on the Christmas cards. This involved mostly creating a mess all over the couch area where I spread out all kinds of cards and related material. I always tell myself that a greater order begins with a little disorder, but that really isn't how entropy works, is it . . . . The problem is that I have too many choices. No one card is ever perfect for any given recipient. I dither. This is why people have their cards mass-produced and signed with an autopen.

The Sparrowhawk went to his book club, and I tackled the child protection policy review that I've been putting off because it makes my brain freeze over. I made a small amount of progress and then gave up. But I'm still not coughing, and that is some kind of progress. I found a sweet note in my door from the Irish family. They said the cake was delicious and that they love having us as neighbors. Aww!
