I don't want to say that Christmas is stressful per se, because I look forward to it so much every year. But certain aspects are a little difficult at the moment. We had that flash freeze the weather people were talking about, and when I woke up, I saw another couple of inches of snow forming a pretty but unwanted veil over all the places I had previously scraped bare. We had been hoping to go out and do some things, but I had to shovel everything again, first. Luckily, the snow was light and fluffy, and easy to scrape away. But it was bitterly cold, with wind gusts putting the feels-like temperature into the single or minus digits.

We went to bakery that has its facilities nearby, and has recently opened a little shop front where you can stop in and pick up freshly baked items. This is great to know, because we won't have to go downtown and look for parking spaces when we want some bread or rolls! We got a couple of breakfast pastries, a sample slice of Detroit-style pizza, and a loaf of milk bread. They said this was their replacement for the brioche they'd decided not to make any more. It's light as a feather--too light for everyday purposes, really, but it makes awesome toast. Then we went to the bookstore to pick up a few stocking stuffer kinds of things. I wasn't really in the carefree mood I need to enjoy for this particular activity, and we didn't have time to stop for coffee before driving back through the blowing snow and troops of cranky shoppers with unscraped windshields. It was nice to get home and stay inside.

Packages have been piling up, as gifts we ordered arrive. The Sparrowhawk has been diligently polishing all the silver until it gleams beautifully. It will look good on the table in a few days. The Sparrowhawk has also been feeling somewhat disconsolate because his body is not cooperating with his wishes. Among other problems, he's worried that a tiny component of his hearing aid may be stuck in his ear. I am irate that anyone would manufacture hearing aids for which this was even a possibility. They are idiots. There's only one way to find out, and that is to seek out help from someone who has the equipment to investigate. Nobody wants to make another irritating trip to a clinic. Alas. Attempting to regain good cheer, I made a quiche for dinner. I played him part of my Hawaiian music playlist, which I find very soothing and reminiscent of tropical ocean breezes. Now we're watching Jeopardy, at which we excel from the peanut gallery.
