UplandMoor of Sleet
Feb. 3rd, 2026 08:21 pmToday we went out to look at cars and ended up buying one. This wasn't quite as precipitous as it might seem. We did a good deal of looking around online and discussing options. We were planning to test drive a couple of things today, but when we saw the Durango, there was mutual agreement that it was too big for us. We ended up buying the current version of the car we had before, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's not the same, of course. Everything has changed in the last ten years. But it's familiar to the Sparrowhawk and has a number of options that will make it easier for him to drive. Instead of our former steed's silver grey, it is jet black. It took over four hours to get everything done, including me driving back to the house to get the salvaged license plate, and then following the Sparrowhawk to drop the Denali back at the rental lot. It is a good thing we bought our own car, because I might have become used to driving the monster, ha ha. To my sorrow, another difference in the new car is that they no longer make that model with a V8. I will miss that. Taking the house key off the old fob and putting it on the new one sadly resembled taking the saddle and bridle off a defunct cow pony and putting it on the new mount. Alas. It's the end of an era, but hopefully the beginning of a new one. Bury me not on the lone prairie.
There was no time to cook anything, but I recalled we had some meat pie in the freezer. I thawed it out and made some mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and broccoli to go with it. I was almost too tired to eat.
