I wasn't able to enjoy Wednesday as much as I had hoped, because it was otherwise not the best of days. I'd been having stomach problems for a couple of days, and woke up way too early on Wednesday, very uncomfortable. I stayed up long enough to make sure that nothing bad was going on so far, and to see a certain black overcoat going up the steps of the plane and LEAVING. I got much satisfaction from that. At that point, I knew I'd have to take a nap or I'd feel wretched all through the inauguration. Before I went back to bed, the Sparrowhawk assured me that he'd not only set an alarm, but was recording the events. Suspenders and a belt. I woke up in time and hurried downstairs, only to find that they'd done the swearing in a little early, so I was late. Oh well--watched it on replay and assured myself it really happened, and saw some of the following celebrations.

I spent the rest of the day feeling pretty much wretched anyway. I had a little soup and toast, but even that did not agree with me. I lay around on the couch and barreled through most of Empire of Grass, the second volume of "The Last King of Osten Ard" by Tad Williams. This is no mean feat given that the paperback is 668 pages long. I say "most" of it because I confess I skimmed a couple of sections. I'm really interested in the three branches of the Keida'ya, the adventures of Morgan, and the problems of Simon and Miriamele. But honestly, I can only take so much of political intrigue and dynastic struggles in nations that don't even exist. I've had enough of that in real time. So I speed-read those bits. But yes, I am a fast reader. Now I have to wait for the third book. I can tell you that if I don't get a satisfactory answer to 1)What happened to Prince Josua? and 2) What happened to his namesake, John Josua? I will be one unhappy reader.

Today, I woke up feeling kind of light-headed from not eating much recently. The sun was out, and it was above freezing, so we went for a walk. We commiserated over our mutual feeling that we are not what we used to be. We went to the small lake, because I wanted to have a vista where I could fully enjoy the sight of blue sky. The lake is frozen over now, and the wind was keen. Later in the afternoon, it blew the clouds back in, so we picked the right window for going out. I Zoomed with a couple of different friends. I had a little soup and a little oatmeal. I found the energy to cook dinner for the Sparrowhawk, and even ventured to eat a little of it. I Zoomed, I read, I walked, I cooked, I watched a shadow depart. Can't say fairer than that, Chief.
