ismoThe Sparrowhawk had his yearly appointment with the dermatologist today, so we had to go out and try to put a dent in the hard-packed snow berm left at the end of the driveway by the city plow. We were both at work shoveling when our neighbor from across the street came over and set to with vigor. This is not Irish, from next door, but a different young man. We have such nice neighbors. I suppose they see us as a couple of old people who should not be doing this job--which is not how I view myself at all--but they are very kind. He saved us a good deal of work, as the job was finished in a trice once he went to work on it. The Sparrowhawk had a couple of spots on his head and face zapped, and returned somewhat the worse for wear, because pain is tiring. This is the price he pays for sporting his fair skin on the summer beaches of Michigan and in the relentless sun of Texas and Kansas.
He got home in time to join me in watching the Perseverance land. It was like a little watch party, because the Diva was texting us, and the Nonesuch was texting with me. We were all very moved by the experience. When they showed the first picture, I said "Perseverance sees its shadow!" And the Sparrowhawk said "Yes--another six million years of Martian winter."
After dinner, I watched a Facebook Live poetry reading, with my friend the Poet and three other writers. I truly enjoyed all four readers, which is not always the case with group poetry readings. There was grief, joy, poignancy and humor. Some of the poems read I would like to read again. Sigh . . . I foresee more book purchases in my future. Fortunately, they're all what are referred to as "slim volumes."
