On this first full day of spring, we succeeded in fulfilling a wish! We went downtown to the art museum to see an exhibit called "Art in Bloom." The museum had members-only hours with timed appointments. Our niche was at 11. It was not crowded, and everyone was masked and polite. The exhibit assigned an art work to each of 15 floral designers, and told them to create a flower arrangement that reflected the work. The patrons got to vote on which arrangement they liked best. This was a clever way to get visitors to walk through the galleries and see all the things that might be worth returning to for a second look. Also, at this time of year, lush panoplies of flowers are very welcome. We did see some lovely things as we strolled through, including engravings by Blake and Durer. Then we went downstairs and looked at the Mathias Alten special exhibit, which we've been longing to see for months. This was a great pleasure, and included many works lent by special collections that I hadn't seen before. On the way out, they gave all the members a bottle of water and a mini-cake.

Today was an important birthdate, honoring as it does Johann Sebastian Bach, our niece Dr. Nurse, and our grandson Muffinhead. When we got home from the museum, I dashed to the Village to get Dr. Nurse some little gifts--chocolate and a bunch of tulips. I stopped in at the grocery store because they were selling BOGO corned beef brisket. The Sparrowhawk has been enjoying the one we cooked for St. Patrick's Day so much that I thought I might fit some more into the freezer for later. The Village was jumping! Everyone was out, riding bikes, walking dogs, eating ice cream, celebrating birthdays on the restaurant patio. At an intersection, a large family on bicycles had a bit of an altercation, and one driver got impatient and rudely zoomed through the crosswalk. The next set of pedestrians, a couple of ladies of a certain age, looked at me nervously, worried that I might do the same. I graciously waved them on. No, ladies, I will not run you down on the first full day of spring, with my window rolled down, a box of chocolate, a bunch of tulips, and two giant slabs of brisket on the seat next to me, while wafting the strains of "Sheep May Safely Graze" thanks to the Sirius Radio Bach Birthday Bash. That would be an act of surpassing wickedness.

I Zoomed with Nonesuch and Moonmoth, and then we drove over to Dr. Nurse's house to drop off her birthday packet plus a bottle of Guinness that she wanted to use in cooking. Alas, we were only able to exchange a few words out on the porch, even though we are all vaccinated, because Mr. Dr. Nurse, who isn't vaccinated yet, has COVID! So far, a mild case, and I hope and pray it remains so. Not much fun for poor Dr. Nurse on her birthday. I hope she'll be able to celebrate for real later on. After supper, we surprised Muffinhead with a phone call and sang him the birthday song, and heard a little about how his first year of college is going at the moment. What a sweetie. I think he was pleased, because he said he should call us more often. What a kind thought.
