ismoThe birds in the morning and evening are sweetly perseverant in their chantings--the same three, five or seven notes over and over. "I built a nest. Come and see!" or "Here I am! Pick me!" or "We haz eggs!" Or maybe just like in the book of Genesis, "Morning came, evening followed." It was a beautiful day, and the high was 81! It was like the first day of summer. We were drinking coffee out on the porch, and I really just wanted to sit there and bask, but instead I buzzed off to the store to get my old person's discount.
As I was driving, my phone burst out in a flurry of pings, and I thought "Oh all right, all right. Probably the Sparrowhawk has thought of something else we really need." So I paused in the parking lot to check my phone. Lo and behold, there was a text from the Philosopher to say that he and his Lovely Friend are officially engaged to be married! This immediately made the day a thousand times more spectacular. We are all so happy. The Sparrowhawk says that he feels like Mrs. Bennett in "Pride and Prejudice," going into raptures and caroling, "Engaged to be married!"
There was some ground beef on sale, so I brought it home and prevailed on the Sparrowhawk to grill it. My contribution was potato salad, green beans and broccoli, lettuce and cucumbers, sliced tomatoes. We had a picnic out on the screen porch. We had a couple of pop-up storms with sudden rain and strange light--it's tornado season. I called Queenie to tell her the happy news, and she said she was feeling a lot better when she woke up today. Unfortunately, she then discovered she had broken out in a horrid rash. I guess that's one of the potential symptoms she hadn't experienced yet. I still think it's hopeful that some of her energy came back, so we'll just hope that the rash goes away soon.
