ismoIt was freezing cold this morning. I went off to the grocery store to get my discount, and had some banter with the checker. He was singing along to the Muzak, and he actually sounded better than the recording. I bought a lottery ticket on the way out. Lazy flurries of snow came and went during the day. In the afternoon, I suggested that we could have a fire in the fireplace to warm things up--perhaps one very last fire. We still have some wood. It was cozy and delightful. Then I had to go cook dinner. I made a chicken thing from the same bunch of recipes where I got the marmalade-marinated pork chops that the Sparrowhawk liked. It was more of an evil science experiment, really. Completely in contravention of my preference for fresh ingredients, it used various packaged ingredients to make an Italian-flavored cream sauce in which the chicken was baked until bubbly. I was also making some pasta. I planned to take the curse off it by cooking green beans and a large salad, but I was interrupted by Queenie.
A few days ago, when she was still feeling sick and miserable, we talked about going somewhere together later on. We made a PLAN. And she called me to say she was executing and I should go ahead and do the same. So we've signed up ourselves and the Sparrowhawk and the Fireman for a river cruise down the Rhine in 2022! It's an experiment. Something different! Something to look forward to!
And then I returned to my other experiment, about which I feel much more dubious. Somewhat to my surprise, the Sparrowhawk loved it. Perhaps it reminds him of the cuisine of his youth. I wasn't wild about it, but then my stomach has been bothering me for a couple of days, so I didn't give it a fair shot. I put most of it away in the freezer for later.
