PearlOyster of Bloom
Jun. 5th, 2021 10:25 pmThe heat wave has arrived, alas. Tomorrow it will be over 90, and then it will continue in the high 80s for a week. Or a month, or the rest of the summer, for all I know, but my weather app has limits to its prognostications. I actually did a couple of things, as it happens. The Sparrowhawk and I went out in the heat and put together my garden fence. Even now, it is not quite done, because we need two more anchoring posts. They are in short supply and we must wait until the store gets another shipment. But we managed to link it together in a provisional way. It was not as easy as the instruction sheet made out, because we are not that mechanically minded, and such mechanical mind as we have was being melted inside our brain-pans by the sun. But we managed. I then watered all my plants. They too were wilting. I hope they'll feel better now. There is much more to be done, but at that point, I had to stop. I took a cooling shower and put on some light and fluttery summer garb. Later, I started reading Piranesi because I told the Nipper I would. Somewhat to my surprise, I couldn't stop reading it, and now I've finished it. I highly recommend it. This is a beautiful book, unique and haunting. I'm so glad I bought the hardcover (a beautiful object in itself) because I think I will want to keep it and add it to my beloved shelf of idiosyncratic classics.
