I really haven't been feeling right for the last few days. It's not respiratory, so I have no fear of COVID, but I'm uncomfortable and lacking in energy. I hate this, because there have been several nice days when, ideally, I'd have been out working on my yard, going for walks, etc. But I just haven't had the wherewithal. I did get to sit out in the back yard a couple of times, though, and that was nice. I got two delightful surprises in the mail. One was the long-awaited Save the Day card for the wedding of the Philosopher and his Lovely Friend, with a darling picture of the two of them inside. I am so worried about this wedding. I just hope it really happens as planned. I will go, come what may, but I'm worried that infection rates will put a damper on the celebration. The other surprise was a gift from a friend--a set of amazing, funny, and wise original postcards, and a chapbook of photos from a trip to Europe. Both of these postal items really gave my heart a lift. Perhaps I'll conk out tonight and wake up tomorrow feeling I can actually, y'know, DO something. Meanwhile I'm eating toast, soup, and rice, and re-watching Pride and Prejudice again, which is chicken soup of another sort. Except that both the Sparrowhawk and I hate Mr. Wickham so much at this point that we can hardly bear to watch the scenes with him in them. I realized this time around that although Elizabeth is very smart, she doesn't actually have that much experience with people--especially men--so it's not too surprising that she's beguiled by him. Most of us have met some smooth-talking devils in our youth--before we knew them for what they were and could banish them with extreme prejudice.
