OrangePeel of Bliss
May. 6th, 2017 10:02 pmThe Sparrowhawk made me a mint julep to sip while watching the Derby. Alas, Irish War Cry didn't win, and now I have a headache. It's a sad thing when a person can't even have a drink on Derby Day without repercussions. Fortunately, I'm not a betting person, so when my horse loses, it doesn't add to the headache.
It was a beautiful day, and not entirely without accomplishment, even with the brief dissipation of the races. We took a walk up to the convent campus so I could show the Sparrowhawk my favorite apple trees, still wearing white, and the woods by the pond, where a thicket of redbuds creates a vivid pink cloud. I pulled up a huge heap of thistles, sent a number of sympathy cards to various bereaved friends and relations, and a card of congratulation to Queenie's daughter, who just got her MBA. I also did some more novel editing. I would like to request that people stop dying now, please. However, I've made that request before with no effect. There's a long list of things I didn't get done, as well as twice as many thistles waiting to be pulled, and I ran out of sympathy cards before I commiserated with all the relatives!
