Locklake of Celeste
Jan. 12th, 2022 09:31 pmWhile the Sparrowhawk had his piano lesson, which has been moved to Wednesday mornings, I pottered around, washing a couple of pots, throwing out a couple of leftovers that had left their edibility behind, putting away laundry and making a shopping list. Then I went to the grocery store. It was funny to look at my cart and see how much less I was buying, and how ridiculously healthful it all was, compared to the Christmas abundance and treats! Most of what I got was fruits and vegetables. There were serious lacunae on the shelves. Some of it was supply chain issues, I suppose, and the rest of it was those mysterious persons who dash in whenever there's a sale and hoover up ALL the cream cheese or ALL the hash browns. I imagine these people as a team of mothers with 12 children each from some kind of cult, but possibly they are bespectacled accountants who are obsessive cost-cutters. Possibly both--when the two teams arrive first thing in the morning, fisticuffs sometimes break out in the frozen food aisle, and the nice guy at the fish counter has to come out and whack them with a frozen salmon to restore civility.
The temperature was above freezing, and it felt positively warm! I had a fleeting thought of taking a walk, but there was still a lot of slippery ice, and then it started drizzling. Ice fishing shacks have popped up on the lake, but today people were walking out to them very carefully--either because it was slippery, or because they were worried about the ice melting.
Tron continues to get better with a little rest, thank goodness. Deb's brother is negative for COVID. This is good news, but what he does have is a systemic infection that would be high on the list of concerns in a non-COVID era. She's still awaiting more detailed information, which is hard to come by long distance.
