CloudFling of Bluster
Mar. 16th, 2022 10:57 pmWell, one thing I did NOT expect was to have 20/20 vision in 2022. I had my one-week checkup, and that's what the doctor said. He was very pleased with himself, and has reason to be. He said normally he sends people back to their referring optometrist for a follow-up, in case they need some degree of corrective lenses, but in my case, he isn't going to, because I don't need it. I will return next year just for general oversight, but that's it. This is quite remarkable.
I keep reminding myself of this happy news, to overcome the sadness of other things. Today I had a rather alarming visit with Madame. She was late in arriving, and had not responded to my text inquiring if she was okay and still planning to be there. It turned out that she'd lost her phone somewhere in the house. Ringing it from her land line doesn't help--the phone is connected via her hearing aids, so wherever it may be physically, it sounds as if it's in her ear! She was concerned that her daughter was trying to get hold of her and would be worried. She asked if she could use my phone to call her, but we both realized, just as she pushed the button, that she would not be able to hear anything on my phone, because it was not connected to her hearing aids. She pushed it back to me, and said "You talk to her!" So I served as the go-between for this conversation. Poor daughter--she WAS worried when my phone number showed up, but I explained that her mom was fine and was sitting across the table from me. Later, Madame told me she'd been in a accident, and the front end of her car was bashed up, although it was still drivable. She was not at fault, but it still worried me. When people start having little accidents, it isn't a good sign. However, young people have them too--viz. the kid who collided with her--so maybe it's not significant. Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the one in charge of this.
The last narrow strips of snow have melted off our front yard, and there are buds on the tree peony! Of course, it may snow again, but I don't think it will stick. Thanks to the later sunsets, I've been for a walk three times this week, so far.
