In the last couple of days, we got a couple of things done. First, we went to the Secretary of State all loaded up with documents, and and renewed our drivers' licenses in the enhanced form that we're going to need for travel purposes by 2020. I highly disapprove of this trend toward enhanced documentation, but given that they're demanding it now, at least we'll have it.

Today, we went to the gym and signed up for the new program. We get a nice benefit with our retired-people's Medicare Advantage. The gym has a special facility for beneficiaries, where you can do a variety of fitness classes free of charge. You do, however, have to buy a heart monitor that can connect to their system, so we did that too, and got ourselves hooked up. For 22 dollars per month apiece, you can extend your membership to complete free run of the pool and free use weight/machine area. So we optimistically did that too. Now all we have to do is actually show up at the gym . . . .

Even pre-gym, I've exercised three days in a row. Today was the first time in quite awhile that I got the full 10,000 steps. After walking, I saw that I had 8000 steps, so I went around and around the house until I got the rest of them.

My mother has been drinking her nutritional supplement for the last couple of days. Yesterday, she complained twice that it had so many calories in it. Hello, you weigh 103 pounds!!--as I did NOT say. Arguing with her only makes it worse. Today she ate some ice cream but complained that it hurt her throat. I do not understand how vanilla ice cream can hurt your throat. I suppose it is theoretically possible. I was going to ask her more about that, but she fell asleep while she was talking to me and never called me back. Sigh.

I have found that getting to the gym regularly, for me, requires a whole series of varying excuses and persuasions and sometimes outright lies, such as "Just do 20 minutes on the elliptical and then you can stop."

Congrats on being Officially Old!

Ugh, weight loss if you're over 70. So so so wrong.
