We arrived in DC after a stopover in Detroit, to be met by Tron, who drove us to the hotel. We're only a few minutes away from their apartment, so she can easily pick us up for the Big Event tomorrow morning! She sweetly and thoughtfully provided us with a goodie bag of oranges, cheese and crackers, yogurt, fizzy water, and an airline bottle each--gin for the Sparrowhawk and bourbon for me. She knows me too well. Our suite is rather grandiose and has a full kitchen and a living area. It's really too bad we don't intend to cook a meal here. The Sparrowhawk thinks they must have given us an upgrade, because he booked a more modest space. It is nice, although at this point I'm kind of over places that aren't my home. Tron also brought us some reading material: the New York Times, The Wind in the Willows, King Stork by Howard Pyle, with the Trina Schart Hyman illustrations--a childhood favorite--and two Beatrix Potter books, The Tale of Mr. Tod (my absolute favorite as a child) and The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse. Maybe not my home, but all the comforts of home!

For the second time, I got pulled over by security because of my FOUNTAIN PEN. They suspect it of being a concealed weapon of some kind. Well, it is, but not in the poking holes in people kind of way. I'm quite disturbed by this, because if they decided to confiscate my pen, I'd be devastated. I guess I'll just have to hope I get away with it one more time. Thereafter, I'll find some other writing implement to take on plane trips.
