Home again. We spent four hours waiting around at LaGuardia, but the plane arrived eventually and we flew home. Michigan was looking very beautiful to me as we descended. I felt as if I'd been away a long time. Green fields edged in trees and dotted with ponds and lakes! On the way out of the airport, we tried again to check on my lost bag, but there was no one in the baggage service office, and the lone agent at the check-in desk, where we were told to inquire, was completely at sea. He promised to pass our request on to a "more senior agent" and have them call us. I doubt this will happen, but it was a kind thought. My garden needs weeding again, but everything is alive! One Early Girl tomato was red and ripe for picking.

We had such a lovely day with the kids yesterday. Tron drove into DC again like a pro, and we visited the National Gallery were we saw a Robert Adams photography exhibit about the western landscape and its destruction; a collection of engravings by Durer and his contemporaries; and a big special exhibit of "Afro Atlantic" art, meaning art made by artists of the African diaspora in the Americas. At that point we were pretty beat and had to go home, where we hung out in the kids' apartment while they went to feed their friends' cats, and then brought home pizza and served it with salad and veggies. We had a relaxing evening, talking and doing a taste test of Canadian treats the Lumberjack's mother had brought him: Swedish berries, wine gums, Big Turk candies, mint Aeros, and Smarties! It was great to spend some relaxed time in their native environment for a change. Tron took such good care of us. This morning, they picked us up and drove us to the airport. Tron thought we'd take a smaller highway because it would be more relaxing. It was, until two giant fire trucks blocked the site of a multi-car pileup. However, Tron maneuvered adroitly around the catastrophe and got us there in plenty of time. Planning to stay home for awhile now . . . .

Ah, that sounds lovely. I'm glad you had such a great time. I haven't been to DC in decades. Have you ever visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture? I read once that the lines tend to be very long because people stay for many hours, much longer than the average museum visit.
