GrayJays of Celeste
Jan. 19th, 2018 09:12 pmAn eventful day. We pulled ourselves together earlier than usual (though this did not include a shower) and went to the gym. We took the class called Zone Gold, where you wear a heart monitor and the cardio portion shows your heart rate zone on the big screen. You do intervals on your cardio machine of choice. This alternates with some calisthenic-type exercises, also pretty strenuous. I was sad because I wanted to ace this, but could not. I had trouble controlling my heart rate, so I ended up in the red zone a lot more than was probably good for me for the first class. This resulted in feeling as if I might pass out while doing planks, and having to sit down for a few minutes. Oops. It might also have helped if I'd eaten something before class, though eating that early in the morning is not my custom. Again oops. Well--we survived the first day, so now we can keep trying! OH--and under "Department of Unjust Injustices," the Sparrowhawk's post-workout readout said he burned 700 calories, while I was given a measly 375, even though I was busting my chops in the red zone, and he could hardly get his heart rate up into the yellow. That is just not fair.
We both had lunch dates--mine with the UU ladies, and his with a friend from his former workplace. It is now her former workplace too. They eliminated her position. I sense a trend here. I had the soup special--refillable soup, plus half a grilled cheese sandwich with pepper jelly. I had two cups of soup: lentil with ham, and tomato saffron, both excellent and just the thing after a workout.
After lunch, I actually came to the end of this editing pass. The novel is now almost exactly as long as it was before, 120,000 words. The parts I took out were replaced almost exactly by the material I added. Now I have to decide what to do with it.
