It's been a busy couple of days, plus falling in and out of gumption traps. Hence I am still hovering short of 25,000 words. Disappointed, and worried, because my assumption earlier this year was that things would slow down around now and THEN I would get all the writing done, before holiday season arrives. And yet something tells me that things will, if anything, ramp up again very soon now. I'll be less cryptic in the near future.

Yesterday morning, the Sparrowhawk went off to the gym. Very bold of him, given that both of us were feeling a bit stiffened up by our frolicking in the waves. So I thought I would follow his example and get out for a walk. They always say exercise will energize you. Yeah, sure--except for the times it makes you feel flattened instead. The Sparrowhawk blames the weather, and he's probably right. I had thawed some chicken out earlier. We went to the beach and didn't eat it, and yesterday we had plans to go out with friends, so we weren't going to eat it. I thought I'd better would cook it, and then it would not go bad, and would be ready to eat today after church. I cut it up and simmered it with curry, ginger, cayenne pepper, onion, garlic, and green peppers, and stored it in the refrigerator.

Then I had a Zoom with a friend, and then it was time to go out to the Mediterranean restaurant to meet our Unitarian friends, the DBs. We haven't gotten together in ages. The Sparrowhawk and I ordered the vegetarian platter for two, and omg SO MUCH FOOD. Piled on a platter of mujadara at one end and rice pilaf at the other were grape leaves, falafel, and spinach pie. Then there was a nice salad each, plus little dishes of tabbouleh, hummus, and tahini. We needed three takeout boxes to carry off the leftovers. We were both reeling from weariness and the heat, so we had an Arab coffee apiece, as well. Little copper pitchers of pure energy zinging through the veins! It did the trick. We drove over to one member's house and hung out until it got dark, which was about 10 pm. Lovely to see everyone again--even though they talked much less about their personal lives and much more about politics than I would have preferred. I don't need people to tell me about every shocking story they've seen on Facebook! I can doomscroll by my ownself!

So we were up late, woke up a little late, more Zoom, made a stab at writing but got nowhere, went to church. Came home, warmed up the rice from last night and added chopped mango, tomato, lime juice, basil, and cilantro to the curry and served it with salad. I hope I'll get my mojo back tomorrow.

Sounds like you had cooking mojo, at least.

I love spicy mango. Sometimes I eat it plain with cayenne or cajun seasoning.
