Jul. 24th, 2022 09:03 pmThe big storm came across the lake from Wisconsin right on schedule and started booming and rattling just at 10 pm last night as we were going to bed. The thunder was more of a long-drawn, grumbling, freight train kind of thunder, rather than the explosive fireworks kind. I noticed it from time to time when I woke up every couple of hours (as one does) but I can't say it kept me awake. There was over two inches of rain, which is great for the garden. In the morning, I checked the trees. A few sticks had come down in front, but nothing major. The tree in the back that always drops branches in a storm had dropped another one right across the cable line, so I went out and pulled it off so it could fall to the ground. Now there are two branches that need to be cut up with my little saw. Sigh. My back yard is getting more and more jungly. This is one of the anxieties of getting older. You have to keep your yard from looking as if a recluse lives there! Needs work when things dry out.
The Sparrowhawk cooked some bratwurst and potatoes for dinner, and I added some steamed broccoli. Each of us did a load of laundry. I got to 25,000 words, finally! The tree frogs are still trilling out there in the twilight. We keep working at going to bed early.
