Aug. 2nd, 2022 09:34 pmA day of many errands. First I went off to the bookstore and had lunch with Madame. I had thought I might get home a little earlier, but she does enjoy a chance to have a good long conversation. I got a little break at home, but then had to go to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned and checked. My father always used to tell us the story of one of his famous German friends, who was invariably surprised by the arrival of the cleaning lady to disturb his scholarly pursuits. "What! TODAY?!" he always exclaimed. That's how I feel when the dentist's robocall appears on my phone to remind me. The dentist himself stopped in to check my teeth and found everything in order. It's difficult to be social when you're upside down, but I assured it was nice to see him--briefly. He laughed.
The question when I returned home--again--was whether we should immediately go to vote, or if we should wait until after supper, when it was cooler. We decided to chill for a few minutes while the Sparrowhawk's meds kicked in, and then walk over. It was rather warm, but still very enjoyable to stroll through the summer afternoon. With the coming of August, I can feel that it is late summer, but it is still summer. August has its own luxury: the luxury of enjoying something right up to its completion. Madame, like many other people, votes by mail-in ballot, but we like voting in person. It's nice to be among our neighbors, say hello to the ladies (usually) who work at the polls, and feel part of a community. Voting at home, alone, has none of those enjoyable qualities.
We went home, had supper, and then I made a quick trip to the grocery store so I could get the gas coupon that was only available until today, and lay in some supplies in case Dr. Nurse and Dr. Music favor us with their presence tomorrow. Today is a great day because it's the 14th anniversary of our Nipper and Redhead!
