Heinlein used to have his various grumpy old man characters say something that he spelled as variations on "Mmmrph" or "Hrmph." It meant various things, such as "I don't know about that" or "Get off my lawn." You can picture me saying this thing, but in a slightly higher pitch. By the time the sun starts to go down, this is the kind of thing I am thinking when I contemplate my day. Sometimes "Mrrmph" also means, "Is it really necessary to discuss this?"

Not that my day was really that bad. For several weeks, I've been wanting to go to one of the non-Saturdays when the farmers market is open. Saturdays are stressful because it's very crowded over there, and there's never any parking. Lately we've had other things to do that kept us from making it to the market anyway. But I was craving some really nice vegetables, both for myself and for another reason that shall be discussed shortly. It's such a pity to have to buy them at the grocery store when I know they are RIGHT THERE at the market if I could only get there. So, when Dr. Nurse let me know she would not be visiting today because she was too busy with meetings in the run-up to school starting again, I thought today would be the perfect opportunity.

I dashed over to the market, and it was very nice and calm. There was only a small cluster of vendors, but they had plenty of wonderful things to offer. I brought home green beans, a cabbage, some pak choy (cousin of bok choy), cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, corn, and peaches. When I got home, I grated up the remaining stump of the giant zucchini and made another loaf of zucchini bread, and cleaned and cut up the remaining strawberries. Then I re-stacked some wood in the garage, and the Sparrowhawk swept the space, to make room to store some items that will be arriving possibly tomorrow.

BECAUSE (burying the lede here) Tron and the Lumberjack are coming to stay for a week, starting tomorrow, until their apartment is ready next Friday and they can move in! Not here, but in my home town two hours away. The Lumberjack got a job as lecturer in his chosen field at a prestigious university in that location, and they will be in Michigan for at least two years! We are beyond excited. I was not allowed to tell until the pesky contract actually arrived and was signed, and there were a couple of holdups with that. They've had to pack everything while barely recovered from a bout of covid, so I think they will want to relax a bit while they're here, and we are happy to facilitate that. The Lumberjack has requested the use of my desk to prepare his class materials.

In other news, we've signed on to watch Bird Baby for a couple of hours on Tuesdays while her mom and dad are both busy. And after I cranked out 500 words or so, I marinated and cooked some chicken I had thawed out yesterday, and made stir fry with a bunch of leftover veggies in the refrigerator: carrots, green onions, green pepper, mushrooms, plus some of the pak choy. It was good. Meanwhile, one of our garage doors doesn't work and needs fixing, and the refrigerator is behaving erratically again. How do the Devices know when company is coming, so they can act up?? Maybe Alexa passes the word along.
