TrueWest of Flourish
Sep. 22nd, 2022 09:56 pmA happy Bilbo and Frodo's Birthday to all! I will not add the conventional "to all who celebrate," because honestly, if you don't celebrate The Birthday, you are just a heathen who needs to see the error of your ways. I went out this morning and brought home some provender. It sure is nice to have a car again. I made a batch of scones with dried cherries in them. I did a bit of work on my project. Then I prepared some mushrooms and set forth a modest hobbit tea party: Scones, butter, honeycomb, raspberry jam, cheese, salad (aka "green herbs gathered"), mushrooms, cold chicken and pickles, and ale. We had thought of having some apple tart later, but we were both pretty well stuffed with scones and honey, so the pie is deferred to some other festivity. The Sparrowhawk went off to his book club, and I took a walk. Last night we didn't watch "Amazing Race" after all, because we were tired. But tonight we are watching "The Two Towers." It is in some ways the most hobbity of the movies. Also the most tragic in some ways.
On this first day of fall, the light was straight from the west and transcendently brilliant. But every day I can see the time of the light shortening. Sunset comes a little earlier each day, and the dawn creeps back a little more slowly. I'm not ready . . . .
