BareBranch of Leave
Oct. 9th, 2022 09:50 pmHoly smokes, that was kind of a lot of church . . . . Bird Baby was getting baptized today, so we showed up at her parents' church for the event. The Duke and Duchess came, of course, but they were somewhat behind schedule, because they were coming from their new house near the Lake, where they had spent the night for the first time. Their GPS apparently lost its mind and routed them in some very strange directions, which they had no way of evaluating, since they'd never tried this before. They got there in the nick of time. Dr. Nurse had warned us that the church boiler was not working, so we should wear jackets. Daytime temperatures were in the fifties. It turned out that the heat in the new house had also stopped working, so the Duchess was freezing. The baptism was definitely the highlight. Bird Baby had on a lovely christening gown, hand made by the Duchess. She was carried around the church so everyone could see her, and she SMILED the whole time. She's the most happy baby ever. The Duchess said she really should have been doing the Royal Wave like a princess.
After that came all the rest of a rather long church service, of which shall we just say that I was not the target audience. I'm not a big fan of sermons at the best of times. Then we went and hung around on the grounds for a time with Dr. Music's side of the family, while many pictures were taken. We were glad that we had dressed up. We often have some kind of sartorial telepathy by which we wear similar colors. Today we both got the blue memo, which coordinated nicely with the grey and blue-grey florals of the other part of the family, so we color-coordinated in pictures. Not that it matters what the old folks look like when there is such a charming new person to be admired!
We went home and had some scrambled eggs and mushrooms, because we were very hungry by that time. Later: maddened zitidars, and a phone call from Master J in Kansas, who is possibly losing her sight from what is most likely CTE-induced seizures. However, what she called to tell me about was her purchase of a tai chi sword so she can learn sword forms. "I can do those even if I don't see very well," she said. She wraps a lot of courage in a small package.
