I went grocery shopping this morning, finally. I got two jars each of mayo and dill pickles because they were about the only things that had reduced prices, and it's good to stock up. Also more TP and paper towels at a reduced price. Nothing else in the store was a bargain, or even a normal price, except the pork roast--1.98 a pound, but you had to buy the WHOLE thing. Fourteen pounds of pork loin. I know I could have taken it home and cut it up for freezing, but I just . . . couldn't face it. Food costs have definitely gone up, and are staying there. Came home and had a Zoom chat with Tron about Thanksgiving plans. This was reassuring because at least we have a sketch of some plans. Worked on the read-through of the novel: taking out words, rearranging sentences. Unfortunately this is making it shorter, not longer.

Tron said it was snowing in DC! That's the first time in my memory that it's ever snowed there before it did here. Ours is coming soon. The temperature has dropped and the air has a sharp bite to it. Every year when this happens, it's the same. "Oh, this again . . . I remember this . . . and I DON'T LIKE IT!" I'm sure I'll get used to it in time . . . and you can't have a sparkly fluffy Christmas without it.

But before the frost, we did have the joys of harvest. I'm so very pleased to report that all of those green tomatoes I picked?? I put them on a sunny windowsill to ripen, and they ALL DID! We slowly worked our way through them all, and they were quite tasty. We used some of the still-green cherry tomatoes in stir-fry, where they were acceptable though not exceptional, and a few of them that are left are turning red too. Success!

Edited to Add: Oh dear. I hate to admit that I'm losing my marbles . . . the above reflects my erroneous temporary belief that Tron was still in Virginia. Of course, she's been living in Michigan for two months now . . . which explains why it was snowing at her house . . . . It's 10 pm . . . do you know where your children are? Or perhaps more to the point, do you know where your brain is . . . .
