Ugh, another day on not enough sleep. I woke up too early and couldn't go back to sleep. And couldn't take a nap later because I had things on the schedule until it was too late in the day to nap. So I've been blundering around in a fog. Or rather, exercising extreme effort to focus so I won't be blundering. Have not dropped or run into anything so far. Sigh. Lunch with Madame was on my schedule. I'm still quite worried about her. I had the impression she had recovered from her stomach trouble last week, but she hasn't. She was in obvious discomfort as we sat together. She stoutly asserts that it's "food poisoning," but it clearly isn't. I hope she makes it through another week so she can get her cochlear implant. That's all she really cares about.

In the morning, the sun never really came out from behind the clouds, so the heavy wet snow that clung to every branch and twig stayed in place. As I drove down the posh street that connects my neighborhood to the Village and eventually to the bigger street that leads to the bookstore, it was like driving through a lovely fairyland of gleaming white limbs lifted against the grey sky. On the way home, the sun had come out for a few minutes, and the snow turned into glimmering droplets and then vanished away. It was magic while it lasted.

I went to the bookstore early because I had an appointment to drop off used books. You can take them 25 books per appointment. They look them over and decide if they think they can sell any of them in their used books section. Then they give you 20% of the value in cash, or 30% as a store credit. Books they don't want are returned to you to be disposed of elsewhere. Tomorrow I'll go in and see how much credit I get. Then I picked up a couple of books the Sparrowhawk had special ordered. I went home and worked on the WIP a little bit. While the Sparrowhawk was at the gym, I did my laundry and put it away, sorted out some things for recycling, and did various other minor tasks. I hope I'll still be sleepy when I finally hit the sack.

I had awful insomnia last night...it's always a win when you can at least do laundry and stuff afterwards, though. I'm going to give blood after work. I don't need sleep to do that.

Either giving blood or pure exhaustion helped.
