We've been having non-stop fun for the last couple of days. Now that Tron and the Lumberjack live in Michigan, they can come up to see us for a day or two without having to make a major effort, and this is so great! The Lumberjack had a class late Thursday afternoon, and they were able to take off after that and arrive here in time to have the ritual welcoming pizza and hang out for the evening. They were here to celebrate the January birthdays: the Lumberjack, Tron and I are all Januaries, as is our new grandson. January is going to be as big as Christmas around here! The Lumberjack's birthday choice was cherry pie, so we put candles on the pie and sang him the birthday song.

On Friday morning, the Lumberjack made waffles for all of us, using the Nipper's waffle iron that he left here at Thanksgiving. (It turned out that it cost the same amount to have Amazon send him a new one with free shipping, and keep the old one, as it would have for us to ship his back to him via USPS.) We also had strawberries, yogurt, and bacon. Then we chilled out, went for walks, etc. until supper time, when we FINALLY made it to the restaurant we had tried three or four times to go to and been thwarted. This time we were on the doorstep at 4, as soon as happy hour started, and they were NOT closed for any reason, and we had a good time and a good dinner. They are famous for cocktails and meat--two of my favorite things. We went home and watched a very weird Russian SF movie called Nightwatch. Fortunately, Tron slept through most of it, and the Lumberjack has a high tolerance for bad movies, so I was forgiven my poor choice of entertainment. I was still glad I saw it though. One more thing checked off my list of things I was curious about. Then we had more pie.

This morning, Tron and the Sparrowhawk went out to get breakfast pastries--her birthday choice. While they were out, they went by the house where he used to live and reminisced about his father and the things he used to do as a kid. Tron as a little girl always loved to go out and do errands with her dad on Saturday mornings, so it was like old times. We put candles in the pastries and sang the birthday song for her. After coffee and pastries they packed up and had an easy trip home. We're so happy they're here--and the Lumberjack just got the word that his contract will be renewed for next year, so that is awesome.

The Philosopher and family went home from the hospital on Thursday, and are doing well. We THINK they have chosen the wonder child's name. However, we will await official notification. This has been a happy week for sure.
