PeaHen of Sleet
Feb. 17th, 2023 09:18 pmThis morning I put on my boots and took my new shovel out to work on the driveway. The Sparrowhawk hd to buy me a new one because I wore the old one out--after ten years, I guess that's reasonable. I didn't do as good a job as I would like to, because under the fluffy snow was a thick layer of scrunchy ice. Sometimes you can get underneath that and pry up the ice, but not always. However, If you scrape off the top layer, the sun will have a chance to melt away some of the ice and you can get it on the next round. I swear there was an inch of ice stuck to the windshield.
I don't move as fast as I used to. It's a process. I make sure to get my balance set right, and move from my core, smoothly and with coordination. This is how I avoid falling down or hurting my back. The lessons of martial arts are useful everywhere! This has been a free mini-tutorial for those of you who don't live in the frozen north. The rest of you can roll your eyes and say "We know all about THAT."
I quit in time for our weekly Zoom with Deb and the Prussian, a bit early because the Sparrowhawk's Friday morning gym was canceled. When I came inside, there was a nice surprise--the Sparrowhawk had made a fire in the fireplace. It was so cozy that we just stayed there all afternoon. Or rather, I did, because he had to go in the other room and Zoom with his high school friends for an hour or so. I did a little work, but not much. I am terribly lazy and spent way too much time looking things up instead of producing words. I decided we should stay in there where it was warm and eat supper by the fire. I was going to make a mushroom omelet like last week, but surprise--no mushrooms! When I went shopping, I thought we had some, but no. So I used red peppers, tomato, and green onions for the filling, plus broccoli and baked potatoes for sides. We watched the cold sunset in the windy west. Then we moved back into the other room and watched Creed I just in case we want to go see Creed III in the theater. That plus being really sore from shoveling gave me another boot in the backside to exercise more. However, it is anybody's guess whether I will, given that Rocky Balboa isn't going to come and knock on my door. At least my Fitbit deigned to grant me an exercise day! Normally it doesn't register snow shoveling as work, but today it gave me my minutes, under the label "SPORT." It's no game, you crazy algorithm, but I'll take it.
