Fledgling of Bluster
Mar. 15th, 2023 10:17 pmOne thing I like about daylight savings time is that there's that extra hour of daylight in the evening, so when the Sparrowhawk goes to the gym, I still have time for a walk. I took advantage of that tonight. I saw that there are CONSTRUCTION TRAFFIC ONLY signs in the drive of the nuns' former building, and four of the giant maple trees in front of the building were cut down and lying on the grass in pieces. So it seems the long-awaited renovations have commenced. I have great fear for the fate of the three lovely crabapple trees that bloom so abundantly every spring. I hope they will survive. The only problem with this walk is that it made me tired, so when I got home I was out of sorts because I resent that such a trivial excursion makes me tired. But I was tired, and therefore did not get much done after that, which also put me out.
I survived the day in pretty good shape, really. Madame did not try to hustle me to take her to get the car. However, she is still determined that she will be driving again shortly, and plans to have her son take her there this weekend. She admits that, since she hasn't been driving for awhile, she is nervous about it, and she admits that she is worried about her mental capacity, because she knows that things drop out of her mind unaccountably. Nevertheless, she's determined. She's a tenacious kind of person. I just hope this doesn't end badly. We had a long chat about this and that at a sunny table in the bookstore, and I gave her the package of small travel packs of kleenex that I bought for her. She's always needing a hanky, and never has one handy. She was delighted with it, more so than I expected.
While I was out with her, the Sparrowhawk had a request from Dr. Music to babysit Bird Baby for an hour or so. His mother usually does it, but she was sick today. Alas! I was sad that I couldn't participate. I would love to see that delightful child again soon. Dr. Music mistakenly took the car with the car seat in it, so when Dr. Nurse arrived home, she couldn't give the Sparrowhawk a ride to our house. I would have cut my lunch with Madame short and picked him up, but he decided to walk, and managed it in fine shape. He was full of energy today! When I got home, I found he'd been cleaning the stove top and sweeping.
I was late getting home for my "writing time" because it just takes so long to get Madame in and out of things, and it's a longer drive to her current residence than it was to her house. She thinks she has now been there for a whole two weeks. Actually, it is three weeks, but she was having none of my gentle suggestion that it was so. Nope. Two weeks it is. As I said--tenacious. Tron and the Lumberjack are coming for a quick visit tomorrow evening. I did at least get started on my other goal--to vacuum and dust our bedroom thoroughly. I have a great deal to do tomorrow, and I just hope I'll have a bit of peace to do SOME of it in.
