ismoHmm. It's thundering in that long, rolling, ominous way. Supposedly we're out of the severe weather zone that's south of here, but maybe I'd better post early, just in case the power goes out. Probably nothing blogworthy will happen in the next couple of hours, anyway. Nothing much happened already! We got up late, which was actually good, because we both got eight hours of sleep--a very rare event, indeed. The Sparrowhawk had no gym today, because his coach is away. I read stuff and thought about stuff, did my laundry, fiddled with the black beans I cooked yesterday to turn them into bean soup. I froze some of them for later, and the rest I re-simmered with onions, potatoes, carrots, and parsley. Now it's soup. Whoopee. Maybe I'll feel more enthusiastic about it later.
We achieved victory tonight, as we went over to St. Alphonsus and got takeout fish fry for the first (and only) time this Lent. It's the final Friday! St. Alphonsus is the best because they have walleye. Also fries, mac and cheese, and cole slaw, and a dessert table where we found pie--cherry for the Sparrowhawk, lemon meringue for me. We took it home because the Sparrowhawk has book club tonight. At the last meeting, people inexplicably voted to read The Road, by Cormac McCarthy. I long ago vowed never to read this book, for good and sufficient reason. The Sparrowhawk didn't want to read it either, and did not. So I'm not sure what they're talking about. Maybe the The Road lovers are explicating the virtues of this book. It's against my principles to review books I haven't read, but I will say that if I wanted to read about the end of the world, there are lots of other books about it that I would probably enjoy more. There's no shortage of post-apocalyptic wastelands in our beloved genre.
