WetlandBog of Bliss
Apr. 30th, 2023 10:33 pmWe arrived home last night rather later than expected from a very successful visit to the Philosopher and family. We got a lot of time with Aquinas, who is still the most adorable baby. He has an enchanting smile and laughs a lot, and when he cries and makes the sad face, it is heart-rending and everyone rushes to comfort him. The Philosopher had instructed us at first that we'd have to leave by noon Saturday because they had things to do. But when Saturday dawned and we got up bright and early, he proposed making bacon and eggs for breakfast and then said their schedule had changed, so we didn't have to leave that early.
The very important thing that we stuck around for on Saturday was taking a picture of the three of them together, in celebration of Aquinas' 100th Day. We didn't get a chance to do it on Friday because too many things happened, including us watching the baby while his parents went out to do some food shopping. Then on Saturday, he was having a bit of a rough morning. We're pretty sure he's teething--lots of chewing his fist, drooling, and sudden woeful noises. So it took several iterations of feeding, napping, changing, etc. before he was in a happy mood to have his good clothes put on and be smiley. We took a lot of pictures of the happy trio, and we hope some of them will be good enough to send to the Lovely Friend's family. We had to take a special one just of Aquinas wearing the tiny gold ring that apparently Korean babies are given when they make it to 100 days! He looked very fancy! He doesn't get to wear it, though, for obvious reasons. It will be kept for him by his family. Then we got to celebrate with some mochi ice cream treats, very delicious, and finally had to say goodbye, reluctantly. It is so too bad that we don't live around the corner.
By this time it was late in the afternoon, so traffic was heavier than it would have been. The good part is that the predicted rain had mostly blown over, and we had clear skies until we got over by the lakeshore. Then a weird dark fog descended, followed by rain. It's because the lake is colder than usual, so the moisture was condensing and hugging the ground. We did get home before dark, but were pretty tired. Fortunately we had some edible leftovers in the refrigerator--my clever plan. Still tired today. I wanted to go for a walk, but it was drizzling most of the day. We watched "Secretariat," in preparation for the upcoming Kentucky Derby. I've seen a lot of shitty things in my lifetime, but I did see Secretariat. There will never be another one like him.
