Aldebaran of Bluster
Mar. 1st, 2018 10:48 pmWe lucked out and were on the edge of the storm that went through en route to the Northeast, so we didn't get any freezing rain or snow. I felt like crap all day, but forced myself out for a walk just at sunset. At first I saw no sunset, just a tinge of pink in the east and a tinge of yellow in the west. Then I saw the true west between a gap in the buildings, and saw a long line of glowing red, like a glimpse of an oven when the door is opened a crack. It faded, as the sky faded from pewter to iron. I hadn't worn a hat, and I enjoyed the cold wind blowing through my hair. It reminded me of being young. I seldom wore a hat back then, and felt bold and energized as I strode along the wintry streets. It was just a momentary illusion, because I was actually moving very slowly. My joints started hurting and I had to step carefully until they loosened up.
I have now divided the book into 21 chapters, with titles. I had a synopsis that was 3000 words long, and now it's half of that, so it's only three times as long as it should be, instead of six times. I don't think the quantitative method is working. I need to make a qualitative change in how I'm going about this, but I don't know how to do that. Frustrating.
I had a nice chat with Moonmoth tonight, but possibly the walk wasn't a good idea, because I had to stop talking when a had a huge coughing fit and my voice stopped working. And then I saw that some unknown number and my sister's cell phone had called me while I was on the phone. It turns out my mother had borrowed someone else's phone and tried to call me and tell me that her phone wasn't working. And when I didn't pick up, she called the Duchess, and the Duchess called me. I already knew her phone wasn't working--I had called several times tonight and got nothing but a busy signal, so I couldn't even leave a message. In her message, she asked me to call her back however late it was, so I tried again, with the same result. She has somehow managed to incapacitate both of her phones. I have no idea how. The Duchess says she'll go there on Saturday, weather permitting--they did get the bad weather and treacherous roads--and fix Mother's phone. I had thought of going there myself, but this cough is making me so miserable that I really don't want to. Grrr.
