Given that I tested negative for covid, this cold packs a surprising amount of wallop in terms of sheer misery. Oof. I succeeded in dragging myself out of bed and by application of hot water (on the outside) and cold water (on the inside) plus hot tea and aspirin, I attained sufficient equilibrium to get in the car and fetch Madame. I had internal dialogue about whether I should cancel, for fear of giving her a cold, but the cafe is a spacious and well-ventilated space, so I decided her potential disappointment over not getting to go out weighed heavier in the balance than the potential contagion. I didn't ask her because I already know that she doesn't care about infectious disease. She's convinced that vitamin supplements and raw food can keep her healthy! Anyway, I hope she doesn't catch anything from me. She was with me one time when I actually had covid but didn't know it yet, so I think the odds are good.

Mademoiselle was not home when I got there. Madame came out via the garage, but had to go back up the steps to the front door anyway, because she doesn't have the garage door opener to close the garage behind her. She has some device that she thinks is the garage door opener, but it isn't. I don't know what it is! It has no visible effect on anything, though she keeps pointing it at stuff. Possibly it's an alien device that was left behind, and one of these days she'll point it in the right direction and the flying saucer will rise up out of its subterranean hiding place. We had a nice chat--barring the obligatory sotto voce comments about someone whose gender she cannot determine. There's one in every cafe, it seems. She didn't turn her purse upside down today, but she did have a problem remembering where she put her phone. I just hope it was at home where she left it! A positive development is that she's been to see the eye doctor. She asked to see the same doctor I had! He has diagnosed cataracts, and I hope he'll do as good a job for her as he did for me. She was also wearing her cochlear implant! All this is definitely progress.

When I got home I was beat. Although it was a beautiful day, I did nothing but drink tea, until I succumbed to a nap while the Sparrowhawk went to the gym. I got a call from PropellerBeanie, which was an unexpected pleasure until we got to the part where it turns out her cold was covid after all! I felt very sorry for her, but she says she feels fine but has to quarantine herself. I guess I will test myself again in case the first one was a false negative, but not until tomorrow morning. Dr. Music called and canceled the Sparrowhawk's lesson, because he has a cold too. Dr. Nurse's dad, the Duke, has covid. There are plenty of germs for all, it seems.
