Memorial Day

ismoI'm still continuing to get better, step by step, so I was encouraged enough to test myself again this morning. Nope. Still a positive pink line. I texted Mademoisells to ask how she and her mother were doing, and to tell her I was still positive so I would not be picking Madame up tomorrow as planned. I got no answer--she has turned off her notifications. So I called Madame. She said that Mademoiselle had gone on vacation for the weekend, and had driven her out to her son's house. He had just dropped her off at home. She had forgotten everything I told her last week about my planned trip to the lake. She would have liked to brush off my statement about having covid--"those tests are not at all reliable"--and said she was never worried about getting covid because she knows she is "healthy." Hoo boy. She is vaccinated, and it's my belief that she's actually had covid, because she had a horrible cough last year that went on and on. In any case, whatever her feelings about it, I can't take the responsibility of going near her when I still might be contagious. However, I was extremely happy to know that she didn't catch it from me last week.
We had to cancel a couple of other social engagements, too. And I say "we" because, although I had hoped the Sparrowhawk had escaped this round of the plague, he is sounding very congested and doesn't feel good. We only have one test left, so he's planning to wait until tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it will be positive. That means we won't be able to celebrate our anniversary at the lake, alas. We can't do much of anything until he feels better. He had planned to grill some steak in celebration of the holiday, but he didn't really feel up to it. Instead, I made chicken salad from the remains of the cooked chicken he bought the last time he went shopping. We had some strawberries and cream for dessert. Lucky we have everything we need right here.
