Whoopee--we had the worst air quality in the nation today. Move over California! I went out for an hour to do some weeding anyway. Yes, it made my eyes smart and my nose run. The haze made a weird veil over everything, and when the sun set, it was a glowing red coin. I had a weird night last night, woke up at 4 am and had trouble going back to sleep. Then I did, and woke up late and dyspeptic, not accomplishing a whole lot today. The weeding was a great satisfaction, though. I discovered an impudent shoot of poison ivy. My nemesis!! I did my best to excise it using my trowel only, with gloves on. I hope I did not contaminate myself. I came inside and scrubbed in spite of the gloves. So far, no itchy spots. Fingers crossed. I hate that plant so much. I think the ecology could survive quite well without it. I reserve my sympathy for things that don't try to hurt me. Why can't that one be an endangered species? That's one extinction at which I would rejoice. Sadly, increased warmth and CO2 only encourage it. No doubt the feral pigs will be eating it with relish when humans have been eradicated.
