We've had a busy day and a half. Yesterday around noon, the car dealer called to say our car was fixed. The Sparrowhawk also ascertained that a room in our go-to motel was available. So we went into a tizzy of packing for an overnight plus contingencies, and then drove out to the lakeshore in our rental car. The traffic was horrendous. Some people were acting like big jerks in their frantic haste to get out to the woods to relax. This always strikes me as paradoxical, but people are like that. By the time we made it to the dealership and picked up the car, we were frazzled. I suggested we get something to eat instead of heading straight for the park, because I could see the Sparrowhawk probably needed to sit down for a minute. We spent a couple of relaxing evening hours on the beach, and that was the best part. I actually got into the water! It was exhilarating. And it was FREEZING!! I almost couldn't make myself take the final plunge, but I did in the end. I dove in several times, and even swam a few strokes, but I couldn't stay in. I don't know what the water temperature was, but probably not over 55. We enjoyed the sunset for awhile, until the breeze cooled as the sun sank, and I started to feel chilly, because I was still in my wet suit. Back at the motel, we watched the rest of the sunset from our verandah. It doesn't really get dark until after 10 these days.

This morning, we packed everything up again, got coffee, and went to the park to sit by the river for half an hour before embarking on our little caravan to Muskegon to turn in the rental car. We both succeeded in finding the place at roughly the same time. Then we got back on the highway and made it home just in time for a torrential rainstorm. I had just time to run to the grocery store and get fixings for salad, which I had promised to bring to a dinner party tonight. I got the salad made, dinner was delicious and the company enjoyable, but OY I am tired now. The Sparrowhawk and I agreed that somehow or other, we vastly overextended ourselves. We underestimated how bad the traffic would be, and overestimated our own tolerance. But all's well that ends well, and here we are again, again.
