Monsoon of Zenith
Jul. 5th, 2023 10:56 pmWell, that seemed like a day and a half. Independence Day, that is. We were planning to make a lazy day of it, given that we had no visitors and I started off the day on a big 4 1/2 hours of sleep. My biggest achievement was trimming all the dead leaves off my houseplants. Come on--it's not a trivial task. We were just sitting down to supper when the Duchess texted to say they were planning to come to the fireworks in the Village, and were we going? We had not planned to, but I wasn't going to pass up such an opportunity, so I said yes.
The Sparrowhawk and I walked over, carrying our folding chairs. It's about a mile and a half from here, and the traffic jam after is always horrible, so driving a car for a mile is not worth it. I started to wonder about halfway there if I was pushing the Sparrowhawk too hard. It was a very hot and humid day. Perhaps I was the one who was overdoing it! But we made it over there and found the Duchess and family. Her son Ikes and his family were there too! They live in Florida, and I haven't seen them since before covid! Dr. Nurse was there too, but Dr. Music had stayed home with Bird Baby, who wouldn't have appreciated the fireworks. I tried to get them to move to a better location, but they didn't want to, so we sat down and happily chatted until it got fully dark. Then it became apparent that we had a tree in our way. There was some fuss and crankiness, but we were able to migrate to a slightly better spot. The fireworks were a bit of an anti-climax, but they were okay. I was there for the people.
After that, of course, we had to walk home. In the dark! I had forgotten to bring a flashlight, but most of the way was lit well enough. It was not a good time of day for the Sparrowhawk, but we just schlepped along doggedly, and we made it home just before midnight. Not too bad for a couple of old people. We got our 10,000 steps! It was so hot and damp, and the air reeked of gunpowder, as people who lived by the lake continued to blast away with their private festivities. I was soaked in sweat. Ugh. We were so glad to step inside the AC and drink a lot of ice water before going to bed.
Today was lunch with Madame day. It's getting a little harder. She asked if I knew "a doctor who worked with memory." I wish I did know one who could help. This evening, I was feeling pretty sick again and had to take a nap. The Duchess suggested I take a blood test for allergies. She learned she's allergic to eggs, beans, and whey protein. I don't think allergies are my problem.
