After doing nothing yesterday, I hoped I would feel good today. I didn't quite achieve that goal, but I felt better. I started the day with a phone call to Queenie. Sadly, her situation has not improved very much, and several catastrophes have occurred amid friends and family. She explained to her doctor why she needs her thyroid meds recalibrated, and he finally got it, which makes him one of the good guys. It's a strange world where you have to make an appointment and pay the expert to listen to you explain his job to him, but apparently that's how it is for many of us. I hope it will help.

I then moved on to running around the house making sure that all was in order for a visit from Bird Baby. I wanted to rearrange the upstairs bathroom closet for security reasons. This caused me to discover a number of derangements that had been made to the order I thought I had established. It's as if there are brownies in my house, sticking things into spaces where I did not invite them to be! The advantage of this, if you can call it that, is that often, there are completely unopened bottles and packages of things we were supposed to be out of. The disadvantage is that sometimes they've been there for years . . . . I didn't have time for archaeology, so I just moved everything in a very ad hoc fashion. The Sparrowhawk was moving the cast iron fire tools to the garage so inquisitive Bird Baby would not klonk herself with them, and bringing his bag of Periodic Table wooden blocks down from the attic for her to play with. I also fetched the Spiderman ball from the beach bag. You'd think the Queen of England was coming for lunch, but in reality is was someone of far more importance.

I was worried that she might be upset to be left here, since she's only 15 months old and probably doesn't remember us from last time. But we had no problems. She is a curious, self-possessed little being who scampered around the kitchen looking at colanders and tupperware, and then sat at the table and enjoyed about a half-pint of blueberries. We played with the fairy house the kids bought for me. Putting things inside things to see if they fit is her area of most interest right now. She opened and closed the doors of the house and put various things into it to see what happened. The flying horses came and tried to eat her cheerios, and had to be shooed away. Before we knew it, her daddy was back to pick her up.

I wanted to go for a walk while the Sparrowhawk was at the gym. But on the other hand, I didn't want to. I stuck my head out the door to see if I would be lured out by the weather. NOPE. It was far too hot. I wanted a nap, but couldn't sleep. Perhaps I'll be less contrary tomorrow.

Quoted for freaking truth, dang.

I would love to share this more widely, with or without your name attached, and with "My relative" in place of "She." Would you be comfortable with that? (I won't be fussed if you say no.)
