We're having a lovely, cool-ish day just before the heat dome blasting the Plains and central Midwest trails its skirts over us tomorrow and Thursday. So I took myself out for a walk, since I may not feel up to it tomorrow. I was rewarded by seeing the heron flying away in the distance. I was happy to see him or her. It's been awhile. The bees are still in the silphium, their saddlebags weighted with gold dust. I thought I should go out and work in the yard when I got home, but it's so intimidating. I needed some ice water, and after that, I did only a few minor things indoors. I spent some time writing things about the nature of magic that might go into a revision of an unpublished work. Or not. Who knows. It was interesting to ME, anyway.

At that point, the Sparrowhawk was falling asleep sitting up, so I suggested a real, lying-down nap might be a good idea, and offered to join him--for purely altruistic reasons, of course. I think I slept more than he did. I had taken some chicken out of the freezer, and the Sparrowhawk had been planning to make stir fry. However, by the time we got up, he'd gone too far past the ideal time for his medication, so he wasn't going to be ready to cook until it kicked back in. We decided to get takeout instead--ready in 15 minutes! We ordered kung pao pork and General Tso's chicken from a place down in the Village. He picked it up and made the proprietor's day by paying in cash and giving him a generous tip.

We got a call from the Diva, who is in Chicago with Muffinhead, visiting the Philosopher and family. They are thinking of taking the train over here to visit us, possibly tomorrow night! We are thrilled and just awaiting further developments. The Philosopher had invited us to come for "the weekend," which I assume means Saturday, since the Diva has to go home Sunday, but we feel as if it's already pretty crowded at their place, and we'd rather give the Diva room to visit without making things even more complicated. It would be a huge bonus to see her and our grandson here, if they can tear themselves away from the enchanting young Aquinas.

Hooray for takeout and also for upcoming visit! It looks like we're going to have about a week of low 80s here, with some rain, for which I am extremely grateful. It was 61 when I went out to exercise early this morning, and currently I have my windows open.
